UN World Conference on Human Rights

The Baha'i International Community was actively involved in a number of different conferences and preparatory meetings for the event, including a meeting on the Role of NGOs in the UN Human Rights System, participated in seminars, monitored activities, participated in a panel and assisted in writing reports. The BIC submitted a statement entitled World Citizenship: a Global Ethic for Sustainable Development to the first session of the UN CSD that year, in June. The statement proposal was to inspire the peoples of the world to champion sustainable development, the education programs and public awareness campaigns called for in Agenda 21 should foster the concept of world citizenship.
