The Brussels Office of the Baha'i International Community operates at the European level and engages with institutions and agencies of the European Union, the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
The notion that humanity in general, and Europe in particular, is currently in an “age of transition” provides a framework for thinking about the complex processes at play in European society. Europe’s transition from a war-torn region to a project of peace, with all the associated challenges linked to such a process of transition, is a testimony of humanity’s ability to transcend long-standing conflicts in pursuit of a collective good. At the same time, the growing interdependence of the community of nations continues to shape Europe’s roles and responsibilities on the global stage, and exerts a profound influence on its internal dynamics.
In this age of transition, with its attendant opportunities and challenges, a number of questions arise. Among them: How can religion, as a powerful tool for human motivation, help to meet the challenges at hand? How can migration and the movement of populations be a catalyst for the development of European communities? How can Europe learn together with others to promote peace and security among the wider community of nations?
These are among the questions that the Bahá’í International Community is in the process of exploring with others. The work of our Office is built on the efforts of Bahá’í communities — present around the world and in every European country — to contribute to the advancement of their neighbourhoods, nations and the global community. The Brussels BIC Office seeks to engage with other European actors in a manner that fosters a culture of mutual learning and collaboration, and that generates insights and understanding needed to meet the needs of the region and of humanity as a whole.
