Breakfast dialogue focuses on human rights in the context of the forthcoming development agenda

Participants gather for eighth breakfast dialogue at the BIC's office.
New York—26 March 2013

The eighth of an ongoing series of informal breakfast dialogues organized by the Baha'i International Community and the International Movement ATD Fourth World focused on human rights at the core of the three dimensions of sustainable development [program]. Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Roberto de León Huerta of the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the United Nations and Mr. Ignacio Saiz, Director of the Center for Economic and Social Rights. Among other themes, participants highlighted the need for genuine commitment to the human rights principles neglected under the current MDG framework: universality, indivisibility, equality, financing, and accountability; encouraged those involved to take an interdisciplinary approach to a sustainable and cohesive development framework, which necessarily includes human rights; and offered suggestions for how to shift from mere preambular mention of human rights to their genuine implementation.
