Variations of this refrain were heard across the 6th United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 6), which met last week in Nairobi, Kenya. With the UN’s Summit of the Future taking place in New York this September, many participants emphasized the connection between addressing the “triple planetary crisis” and ensuring humanity’s long-term well-being.

This year’s session, on fostering social development and social justice, emphasized the critical need for meaningful reflection on the barriers to social progress, as well as success stories around inclusive growth and bridging inequalities.

The Addis Ababa Office of the Baha’i International Community (BIC AAO) expanded its engagement across the African region and beyond over the course of 2023, through a variety of initiatives and efforts. 

Of particular note, the Office continued its ongoing conversation series, “Pan-Africanism and Youth: Africa is Awakening.” The fourth installment of the series, exploring the theme “Why We Must Lay Our Hope on the African Union,” took place August 19 and featured keynote speaker William Carew, Head of Secretariat at the African Union ECOSOCC.
